Champagne Direct stocks the very best selection of Krug Champagne. Krug is an encounter, an experience, a revelation - and a collection of six extraordinary Champagnes: Krug Grande Cuvee, Krug Rose, Krug Vintage, Krug Collection, Krug Clos du Mesnil and Krug Clos d'Ambonnay.
When Johann-Joseph Krug founded the house in 1843, his dream was to give his name to nothing less than an exceptional Champagne - a Champagne with a taste all its own. The wines are made from carefully selected Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier grapes. Krug is a guardian of Champagne tradition in still fermenting its wines in small oak barrels, which gives them an exceptional finesse.
Another signature of the Krug style, they are made to mature for at least 6 to 8 years, the reward of which is a distinctive complexity and the ability to age gracefully.
Although each release of Krug Grande Cuvée contains a mix of wines from at least 10 different harvests, a single “base” vintage makes up at least 50% of the blend in each annual release.
The current expression is the 163ème Edition of Krug Grande Cuvée which is an extraordinary blend of 183 wines from 12 different years, the oldest from
1990 and the youngest from 2007. With the launch of numbered releases, Krug lovers can now determine the age of their bottle simply by the Edition Number on the front label.
Blending many vintages gives Krug Grande Cuvée its unique fullness of
flavours and aromas, incredible generosity and an absolute elegance that are
impossible to express with the wines of just a single year. Krug Grande Cuvée
is re-created each year beyond the notion of vintage.
Krug ID - Each bottle of Krug Grande Cuvée now has
a 6-digit number on its back label which enables the consumer to discover the story of
their unique bottle. This can be done via the Krug App or on the Krug website.
