Overview
Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Rosé 2012
Introduction:
Over the course of generations, the Taittinger vineyard has grown considerably, and today extends over 288 hectares, making it the 3rd-largest estate in Champagne. The vineyards are planted with 37% Chardonnay, 48% Pinot Noir and 15% Meunier, harmoniously spanning 40 different crus that rank among the very finest to bear the name of Champagne. A wonderful reflection of the Taittinger style, they provide a significant portion of the Maison's grape supply, making them an incomparable asset in terms of quality control for the blends and the consistent excellence of its wines.
Using the "responsible winemaking" approach, this wine carries both the "High Environmental Value - Level 3" and "Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne" accreditations, all of which comes in recognition of meticulous craftsmanship practised in harmony with nature.
The demand for style as an absolute quest, retaining only the best and resembling no other but oneself, such is the philosophy behind our wines. A subtle balance between the power of Nature and the extravagance of man, a signature that allows us to free ourselves from the effects of fashion to offer memorable moments.
Tasting Notes:
The 2012 vintage displays a beautiful blushed salmon colour, with an elegant sparkle. Its fine bubbles and feisty effervescence lead into a precise and elegant aromatic finish. It is a champagne that requires time to reach its full potential and aromatic complexity.
This is a champagne that demands time in order to express its full potential and fragrant complexity, inviting us on a long journey of sensory and aromatic discovery.
The palate is imbued with authenticity; subtle and delicate yet generous and vivacious, immediately unveiling gentle notes of wild strawberries and fresh redcurrants. The effervescence on the palate adds a subtle, harmonious touch to the balance and aromatic power of this cuvée. The magnificent bitters and slightly acidic freshness on the finish elevate this wine to a high spiritual level.
Culinary Pairings:
This cuvée Comtes de Champagne Rosé represents the art of gastronomy and is the perfect accompaniment to pure, delicate, harmonious dishes such as: chicken supreme with foie gras, scallop carpaccio with citrus fruit or a salmon/scallop tartar duo with avocado... A duck breast.
The Year:
This 2012 vintage is the fruit of a year of contrasts, marked by a succession of chance climate effects; its existence is almost miraculous, as the weather conditions in the early part of the year threatened the vines themselves. But starting in late July, a flood of bright sunlight coupled with low yields allowed the grapes to reach a rare level of maturity. The wines produced from these Chardonnay grapes would be complex, elegant and refined. The Pinot Noirs would be full-bodied, powerful and beautifully expressive with aromas of red fruit. This wine zealously embodies the exceptional union of the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay Grands Crus, characterised by the remarkable harmony and balance they display. It carries all the power and precision of the Comtes de Champagne Rosé, but also the fragrant generosity of the 2012 vintage.
This singular millésime echoes the superb maturity of the Chardonnay grapes, and is built upon the chalky, mineral body unique to the Comtes de Champagne style, conferring incredible aromatic refinement and a singular strength of character. Until reaching its peak expression, the Comtes de Champagne rosé demands time to develop, benefiting from the slow maturation required in order for this wine to truly flourish.
