Overview
Gosset Celebris 2012 Brut 75cl in Wood Box
Tasting Notes:
Fresh pear and citrussy notes of grapefruit are enhanced by delectable pear and almond pie.
The beautifully structured palate offers depth, tension and notes of raspberry, red cherry and a mineral note on the harmonious finish.
Awards:
Gold, IWSC, 2025
96 Pts, Wine Enthusiast, 2024
Winemaker: Odilon de Varine
Grapes: Chardonnay 70%, Pinot Noir 30%
Residual Sugar: 5.5 g/L
Vintage:
The 2012 vintage was almost miraculous, as the year's climatic conditions were hardly conducive to producing a great vintage. However, from the end of July onwards, plenty of sunshine enabled the grapes to reach excellent ripeness, and the lower number of bunches undoubtedly contributed to the wonderful concentration. This vintage is only the nineth Gosset Celebris
in the last 35 years.
Winemaking:
Vinification took place in stainless steel vats with traditional ageing. 8% was vinified as a red wine. Malolactic conversion was carefully avoided to showcase the House's fresh signature style and preserve the naturally fruity aromas. Bottling took place late spring following the harvest, prior to aging on the lees in the cellar. Dosage was precisely adjusted to balance freshness and vinosity without compromising the wine's character and purity. This Champagne was aged in the cellar for a minimum of 10 years. Post-disgorgement, this cuvée returned to the cellars for at least six months to allow the smooth integration of the 5.5g/l dosage.
Vineyard:
Champagne Gosset sources grapes from 140 hectares of vineyards across Champagne, partnering with 160 winegrowing families. This diverse sourcing allows for meticulous selection and balanced blends. The grapes for this cuvée come from Ambonnay, Avenay, Avize, Aÿ, Bouzy, Cuis, Cramant, Grauves, Le Mesnil-Sur-Oger, Louvois, Trépail and Villers-Marmery. Gosset champions sustainable practices, incentivising organic and sustainable viticulture.
Producer Information:
Maison Gosset, the oldest Wine House in Champagne, boasts a rich history dating back to 1584. The Gosset family's involvement in viticulture, however, began even earlier in the 15th century, with Jean Gosset cultivating vineyards in Aÿ. By 1584, Pierre Gosset established a still wine trading house, predating sparkling Champagne production by over a century. Over the years, Gosset wines have graced royal tables, even appearing at the coronation of Charles X in 1825.
Today, Gosset represents seven centuries and 16 generations of Champagne expertise and excellence. Gosset's commitment to heritage extends beyond its own legacy; the annual Trophée Gosset recognises individuals and institutions dedicated to preserving heritage, from culinary arts to broader cultural contributions, while 'Gosset Matchmakers' is a food and wine pairing competition for rising chefs and sommeliers in the UK.
Sourcing primarily from Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards, Head Winemaker Odilon de Varine deftly crafts Champagnes with remarkable depth, elegance, freshness and longevity that define its signature style, full of purity and
precision.
