Overview
Dom Pérignon Rosé Vintage 2010
Introduction:
Vintage after vintage, Dom Pérignon Rosé pursues its vocation of pushing further the frontiers of Dom Pérignon's creation. Since the early 2000s, this quest is entirely stretched toward a paradoxical research: to achieve both a supplement of radicality and a supplement of harmony.
Dom Pérignon Rosé Vintage 2010 now incarnates a significant landmark in this dynamic of creation.
As a culmination of this research, the accomplished personality of Dom Pérignon Rosé Vintage 2010 conveys a feeling of self-confidence, refinement, elegance, and majesty.
It rewards ten years of creative efforts aiming to transform the expression of Dom Pérignon Rosé toward more pinot noir radicality.
Born of a complex, extremely demanding harvest, truly a challenge to the expertise of the Maison, Dom Pérignon Rosé Vintage 2010 is the fruit of a successful picking bet. It shows a mouth endowed with a surprising poise, lightly powerful, dense and delicate, ample and bound.
Dom Pérignon Rosé is conceived as a "radical exploration," and Vintage 2010 is presented as a landmark in the house's work since the early 2000s to refine Rosé through:
• Terroir and parcel selection: identifying the best-performing sites for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
• Improved vine and maturity management: better control of vine vigor and clearer definition of optimal ripeness thresholds.
• Red wine integration: investment in new red wine cellars and ongoing refinement of how Pinot Noir red wine is incorporated into the final assemblage.
• Long cellar ageing: a slow transformation over nearly 15 years in the cellar, aligning with Dom Pérignon's commitment to time as a core component of creation.
Tasting Notes:
The wine is surprising, less powerful than expected. That is, this power is also displaying lightness. It is strikingly intense, precise.
Also delicate, dense and silky. Everything seems to be integrated within it, like reconciliated, a mastery of opposites.
The obvious coherence of its flesh fills the mouth with an impression of suspended, spherical presence, which is deploying and amplifying: it relaunches itself within the duration of the tasting, stretching out the movement of the wine. Its personality leaves a feeling of poise and self-confidence. It has a refined and distinguished aesthetic, which unfurls in an elegant and majestic manner.
Seasons and Harvets:
With the lowest temperatures since 1996, the first part of the year contrasted with the entire decade. Winter frosts and a cool spring were reminders of the vineyard's northerly latitude. The summer was hot, but not excessively so, and infrequent rain confirmed a particularly dry year. Suddenly, in mid-August, everything changed. The equivalent of two months of rain fell in just two days. With the heat and the water, maturation was fast and generous, but the harvest began with botrytis mold attacking the pinot noir grapes.
As in 1995, the grapes had an elevated balance, at the same time sweet and acidic, but some parcels had to be left out and others sorted in order to bring out the best in a vintage rich in contrasts.
Reviews & Ratings:
Stunning. So rich and complex on the nose! With almonds, burgundy flavoursand strong Pinot Noir character on the nose. Really exciting! No shortage of structure. It seems so rich that it kids you there is some sweetness but the dosage was less than 5 g/l. Food wine. Should be great with tonight's langoustines! Long and savouryon the end. If grand cru rosé burgundy existed, this is what it would taste like.
JANCIS ROBINSON, JANCISROBINSON.COM
Points 19/20
Aromas and flavors of complex potpourri as well as sliced strawberries, iron and terra-cotta. Some beeswax, stems and flower petals as well. It's medium-bodied and transparent, refined phenolics giving it length and finesse. Polished and delicate finish. You can feel the superb quality of the pinot noir(56%) with 44% chardonnay.
JAMES SUCKLING, J S WINE RATINGS
Points 99/100
Eleven percent of Pinot Noir red wine lends the cuvée its refined, gently peach tinged hue, slightly paler than usual. The nose captivates with its understated elegance, offering a delicate interplay of spicy, woody nuances and expressive, crunchy red-cherry fruit. With air, notes of ripe pineapple emerge, bringing a subtle sweetness and charm. On the palate, the wine surprises with its poise and restraint. Light in touch, yet intricately structured, framed by super-fine tannins. While one might expect power from this solar harvest year challenged by late season rains, Dom Pérignon 2010 reveals instead are markablyelegant expression, radiating instant, articulate omplexity.
