Overview
Dom Pérignon Vintage 2008 - Plénitude 2
ELEVATED WITH TIME
BORN FROM AN EXCEPTIONALLY OVERCAST YEAR, DOM PÉRIGNON PLÉNITUDE 2 2008 WAS A 'LATE CHAMPENOIS MIRACLE' .
BUILDING ON THE VINTAGE 2008, THE PLÉNITUDE 2 2008 CLIMBS THE PALATE FOR A MORE TACTILE TASTE.
ITS FRESHNESS IS VIBRANT AS WELL AS SILKY, WITH A SOLAR PRESENCE, SLIGHTLY IODIZED.
Tasting Notes:
The initial direction of Vintage 2008 is still there, precise, like a coated muscle lying on a frame of acidity, yet a shift has happened.
Dom Pérignon Vintage 2008-Plénitude 2 has widened. As it lands on the tongue, its edges are climbing up the palate, fulling a more complete tactile space. The acid frame is entwined with bitter and umami hints, as if it was braided, hence becoming more consistent. It unfurls like the Kanagawa wave, scintillating, radiating, lilting. Candied lemon, bergamot, white peach, cocoa, roasted coffee. Its freshness is vibrant as well as silky, with a solar presence, slightly iodized.
Vincent Chaperon, Chef de Cave
Seasons and Harvest:
Amidst a decade characterized by bold, generous sunshine, 2008 was dominated by grey, overcast skies. Spring and summer brought the same lack of sunlight and absence of high temperatures but it was September that saved the vintage, belatedly and miraculously.
Just when the harvest was getting underway (on September 15), the weather conditions were finally perfect: blue skies and prolonged north-northeasterly winds. Picking was spread out over a long period in order to benefit from this positive turn of events. The grapes were riper than anyone dared hope and had truly outstanding balance. The vines were in perfect health.
Reviews & Ratings:
Greenish hue. Very concentrated and evolved, lightly smoky and creates an immediate impression. Dry, serious finish. Extremely tight bead. Very bright fruit. Citrus, even lime. A wine that is tightening up, a bit like a drawstring with tension - like when a bow is drawn back by an arrow. A very grown-up Dom Pérignon.

Points 19/20
Magical, showing floral perfumes of jasmine, lavender and orange blossoms. The wonderful center palate had medium body and a depth of fruit that goes on for minutes. Dried apples, limes and flowers. Oyster shell and umami. This has developed beautifully with 16 years on the lees. Stunning.
JAMES SUCKLING, J S WINE RATINGS
Points 100/100
The extra seven years of ageing on lees under cork versus the original Dom Pérignon 2008 release has wrapped up all the year's innate tension and brightness in an unabashedly decadent, enveloping richness of toasted nuts, fresh dough and gentle oyster cream, although the precision and integrity of the vintage is absolutely present too. There are beautiful aromas of pure red strawberry and bergamot with some darker mocha notes emerging, both Chardonnay linearity and a surprisingly fragrant Pinot finding a perfect equilibrium. The palate carries the buzzing acidity of 2008 on a time-softened, ultra-silky mousse, with new details of umami savour tucked in subtly to the overall impression of glacial freshness. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the reputation of the original release, this is among the most memorable and energetic of The Plénitude released made since the program of late releases took the name in 2014.
