Delamain Pale and Dry XO Double Magnum (3 litre Jeroboam bottle size)
The Pale and Dry XO, a blend produced exclusively from 100% old Grande Champagne cognacs - the first cognac growth, and aged for many long years, comes draped in extremely bright, light amber robes, clear and shot through with flashes of gold, that subsequently reveal its remarkable delicate elegance and distinction.
Its bouquet is characterised by the powerfulness and length of the intensely floral aromas, backed by the distinctive vanilla of its rancio. Its mellow roundness on the palate blossoms into a full-bodied fruitiness, with a slight, harmonious hint of liquorice.
ABV : 40%
Background Information:
Pale & Dry, “Pale” because it is much paler than other cognacs of this age due to the natural pale colour of the cognacs used in the blend which are all matured in old casks and “Dry” because it only has it natural sweetness.
The blend at natural strength (around 50% ABV) is very slowly broken down to 40% with weak old Grande Champagne Cognacs at 15% which enrich the blend.
The Delamain family have been handcrafting their exceptional Cognac since 1824 and remain one of the last family owned houses. They benefit from universal recognition as the leading specialist in the blending and elevage of fine old Cognac using only eau-de-vie from La Grande Champagne - the first great growth of Cognac. This is then aged in seasoned oak casks for a minimum of two decades, before being blended and bottled under the control and expertise of the direct descendants of the founder James Delamain.
This skill and knowledge passed down through the generations was honoured by the International Spirits Challenge in 2007 who awarded Charles Braastad-Delamain the Trophy of Excellence in Craftsmanship, perhaps the highest accolade in the Spirits world.
Review:
“Delamain is one of the last family-owned Cognac houses. This is a beautiful old Cognac made using the best eau-de-vie from the Grande Champagne region - powerful, mellow and subtle, all at the same time. A heroic after-dinner treat.”
