The maturation of Dom Pérignon occurs not in a simple linear trajectory, but in successive leaps into new expression, each of which are called Plénitudes. In the long journey of elaboration, the wine goes through this metamorphosis, a transformation. Each Plénitude contributes to Dom Pérignon's singularity. In the darkness of the cellars, from one plénitude to the next, Dom Pérignon will grow and blossom, transmuting time into energy.
The First Plénitude (in 2005) of Dom Pérignon Vintage 1998 was a model of balance. After a moment of weightlessness, the palate was awakened by a youthful energy.
In its Second Plénitude, invigorated by the additional years in the cellars, sixteen years of elaboration in total, Dom Pérignon P2 1998 brazenly transcends the potential of the vintage. The opposing and complementary elements of the assemblage resound for an increasingly sharp intensity. The aromatic persistence progresses like a wave that stimulates the penetrating nature of the wine.
The energy reaches its climax. Exalted in this Second Plénitude, the dark, mineral, iodine, spiced singularity of Dom Pérignon vibrates higher and clearer than ever.
Dom Pérignon P2 owes its intensity to its precision, paradoxically balancing yet embracing, chiselling without breaking, barely touching without ever hitting hard. Like any high-tech creation, it reveals itself in high definition. The character of Dom Pérignon is rendered in its dark, understated and powerful design: its tone-on-tone bottle and minimalist brushed aluminium box, in a deep matte, seem to be locked to temporarily subdue the wine's high energy.
