Brilliant yellow colour with subtle golden-green highlights and a constant stream of ultra-fine but remarkably persistent bubbles. Rich, heady nose, opening with a refined, concentrated bouquet of crystallised citrus, followed by scents of white fruits (pears) roasted hazelnuts and cocoa. The aromas are smooth and precise - beautifully judged with not a trace of heaviness.
The texture on the palate is fleshy, generous and silky-satisfyingly mouth-filling, with a creaminess punctuated by discreet effervescence. Succulent flavours of nuts, ripe pears, caramel and tarte Tatin are perfectly balanced by the freshness and energy that come from natural fruit acidity.
The overall impression is of an impressively harmonious, subtle champagne. Poised between finesse and vinous balance, Louis Roederer’s Blanc de Blancs offers that subtle, refined expression characteristic of Chardonnay fruit from Grand Cru Champagne vineyards: fresh, creamy, precise and taut.
The style is assertive, always harmonious, gossamer, rich, and subtle.
Grape Variety:
100% Chardonnay - 15 to 20% of the wines vinifed in oak barrels with weekly batonnage. No malolactic fermentation. The Blanc de Blancs is drawn at low pressure to ensure rounder, smoother bubbles. It then undergoes an average of 5 years maturation in the cellars and rests six months after disgorgement to finish it perfectly.
Dosage of between 8 and 10 g/l is adapted to each vintage.
Background Information:
Since 1776, the Maison Louis Roederer has been constantly developing its extensive knowledge of soil and climate, separate vinifications, and effervescence. From the heart of its vineyards on the Côte des Blancs, where the limestone soil brings out such finesse and subtlety from Chardonnay, Louis Roederer selected two exceptional wines (Le Mesnil sur Oger and Avize) with typical and complementary characteristics enabling the elaboration of intense wines that are both subtle and aromatic. This elegant vintage soon became the Roederer family’s favourite wine for family occasions.
