Medium bronze colour with vibrant rose pink hues and a fine persistent bead. On the nose savoury, nutty yeast autolysis notes dominate with hints of dried leaf and fresh, ripe strawberry and raspberry fruit.
The flavours echo the nose, with mouth-filling smoked almonds and cracked wheat autolysis notes over a soft, dry and structured palate supported by fine creamy notes. The addition of Pinot Noir as a red wine to the blend provides great complexity, persistence and a long, crisp, fresh strawberry finish.
Extended yeast ageing produces a creamy wine with great finesse, complexity and persistence.
Background Information:
Green Point was established in Victoria in 1986 to produce high quality sparkling and still wines in the highly regarded Yarra Valley. Green Point was so named as it was one of the last places in the Yarra Valley to remain green during the summer months. The cool climate in the South East corner of Australia is ideal for the production of high quality still and sparkling wines.
The sparkling wines are made using ‘méthode traditionelle’, and have been consistently acclaimed by the wine press. Green Point uses the same three grapes found in Champagne - Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay to create exceptionally refined and elegant sparkling wines. Thanks to the temperate climate of Yarra Valley, the estate’s still wines, including the celebrated Green Point Shiraz, stand out among those from other Australian wine-producing regions for their balance and finesse.
