Dom Perignon Andy Warhol 2002

This gift set contains 1 each of the 3 Dom Perignon Andy Warhol limited edition bottles - blue label, red label, and yellow label bottles.

Each bottle is presented in its own Dom Perignon branded gift box/coloured sleeve.

This autumn, Dom Perignon pays tribute to the king of pop art, Andy Warhol, with the creation of an exclusive daring collection of pop art design Dom Perignon bottles.

A Tribute to Andy Warhol

Inspired by Warhol’s unconventional representation of icons, and the playful use of codes and colour in his work, Dom Perignon has commissioned the Design Laboratory at Central Saint Martin’s School of Art & Design to reinterpret its timeless bottle. The result is a unique collection of three bottles, each with its distinct label in red, blue or yellow, paying homage to Warhol’s iconic colour games.

A Tribute to Andy Warhol by Dom Perignon goes on sale from mid-October 2010. The design will be available with the new vintage, Dom Perignon Vintage 2002. As there will be a limited quantity of these special bottles, lovers of Dom Perignon and Andy Warhol will have to be quick to get hold of this limited edition bottle.

About Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol was born Andrew Warhola on August 6, 1928.  From an early age, Warhol showed an interest in photography and drawing.  After attending Carnegie Mellon University, Warhol moved to New York and worked as an illustrator for several magazines including Vogue, Harper's Bazaar and The New Yorker. In 1962 the artist had his first solo exhibition and four years later participated in his first group show exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art.

Appropriating images from popular culture, Warhol created many paintings that remain icons of 20th-century art including the Campbell's Soup Can, Marilyn and Elvis series. Warhol worked in a variety of mediums from painting to photography and in the eighties hosted his own talk-show on MTV.

Andy Warhol died February 22, 1987, firmly established as one of the most important artists of the 20th century.

Dom Perignon 2002 Tasting Notes

Fresh, crystalline and sharp, the first nose reveals a unique vegetal, aquatic world, with hints of white pepper and gardenia. The wine’s maturity then makes a gentle appearance before exhaling peaty accents.

In the mouth, the attack is direct, a prelude to a lusty roundness that seems to curl up like a plant. The notes of anis and dried ginger glide over fruit skins (pear and mango), creating an effect that is more tactile than fleshy. The finale stretches out and then comes to rest, calm, mature and diffuse.

An ineffable charm has made itself felt, with no effect on the wine’s integrity.

Background Information:

When Father Pierre Perignon took over as cellar master at the Benedictine Abbey of Hautvillers in 1668, his avowed goal was "to make the best wine in the world". For a young monk just 30 years old, it took a visionary spirit and exceptional audacity to pursue such lofty ambitions. An exact contemporary of Louis XIV, Dom Pérignon transformed the history of wine, just as the Sun King revolutionized the very notion of "art de vivre". Wine was the medium for their meeting, as the excellence of "Father Perignon's wine" earned it a place at the king's table.

More than three centuries later, the House of Dom Perignon perpetuates the visionary approach of its founder, widely considered the spiritual father of Champagne. Released only as a vintage, Dom Perignon is cellar aged for at least seven years prior to release. This time is critical for harmonising the flavours and ensuring that the wine’s balance remains elegant, sensual and ethereal. Dom Perignon can also be enjoyed many years later with rare OEnotheque vintages, released by the Chef de Cave at times when the intensity and complexity of the wine has reached optimum levels. Each new vintage is a unique creative act, reinventing the extraordinary style of a wine that only the Chef de Cave may declare a "vintage year".

"The grapes are never the same from one year to the next. If a harvest does not meet Dom Perignon's unyielding standards, there will be no vintage champagne that year. This isn't a value judgment - it's an aesthetic vision" says Dom Pérignon Chef de Cave Richard Geoffroy.

The unique personality of Dom Pérignon is born of this creative commitment. It is this tension between the distinctive qualities of a year and the timeless spirit that defines Dom Perignon, an unparalleled sensation that imparts weightlessness, airy richness and suppleness from first impression to the long-lasting finish.

Dom Perignon: the best wine in the world.

The bottle of Dom Perignon 2002 comes presented in a limited edition Dom Perignon Andy Warhol gift box.
