Sweet and well-balanced, notes of vanilla, pears and possibly violets, some nuts and fresh hay.
A full flavour, well balanced with a good body and a very slight trace of smoke. Every bit as mouth-watering on the palate as the nose suggests, with some lemon tartness countering the rich maltiness and almost chewable grain. Perhaps the finest and most supremely constructed of all Scotland’s blended whiskies.
The finish is warm and balanced, with a whiff of smoke. Very long for such a fragile blend, with an astonishing depth of simple malt and toffee.
Background Information:
Bailie Nicol Jarvie was first blended in 1860 and takes its name from a fictional Glasgow magistrate immortalised by Sir Walter Scott in his novel “Rob Roy”. By the turn of the twentieth century, it was described as a “firm favourite” in the Officers’ mess during the Boer War.
BNJ, as known to its friends, is the only blended whisky with a cork and boasts the highest malt content (60%) of any premium blended Scotch. This renders it deliciously complex and silky smooth to the taste.
A delicate blend of sweet Speyside, aromatic Highland and peaty Islay malts, blended with only the finest grain whisky. Carefully matured and judiciously blended, all these rare whiskies are guaranteed to be at least eight years old.
